The Obligatory Political Entry: this is a blog, after all. 
So, the Wisconsin Democratic primary was Tuesday. And I, my friends, did not vote. It was not out of apathy; I actually went to the polling place. And I sat down at the table where you're supposed to fill out your voter registration forms. And I read a chapter of H.M.S. Surprise (fantastic book, by the way) while Jessie voted. I abstained. Because there was no one on the ballot that I wanted to vote for, and there's no "against all" option. Oh, when the actual presidential elections roll around, I'll go vote "anyone but Bush." Whatever lame-o the Democrats throw out there (and it looks like it's be Kerry, whoo-friggin'-hoo), I'll put a little check next to. Because the 2004 president will suck regardless, but if it's Bush, WWIII is more likely to break out, and I'm generally anti-WWIII. But the fact of the matter is, Democrats are pissing me off. Fine, I'm a socialist, my opinions on the Democratic Party are bound to be a bit negative. But when it was really, really important, they rolled over like a fat man on a waterbed. My dear, beloved Russ Feingold (D-Wis) was the ONLY SENATOR to vote against the Patriot Act. The only one! Agh! And now, oh, now that the primaries have come, how the Dems are criticizing the Shrub. The primary candidates, why, they're just speaking RIGHT OUT. Blandly. And promising to, um, be less agressive. And they're so nice! Such clean campaigns! This is politics, not a tea party. Show a little fire, wussies. Eh, it doesn't matter. The US electoral system is a travesty, anyway. I know we're not a democracy, but we're barely even a republic - the parties pick a few candidates, troll them around in expensive PR-approved TV spots for a while, then we pick the least sucky-sounding of the options. That's the primaries. Then, in the actual election, we don't even get to pick, we just vote to encourage the Electoral College to do what we suggest. Why, all this about the parties doing the choosing? And then creating sham elections? We may have two Parties, but it's sounding very, very similar to a certain country where they once had one Party. Let the little old ladies get married, dammit!  Awww! Little old lady love! Seriously. These old ladies? Have been together for fifty years. They earned that marriage certificate they just received in SF. Talk about your long engagements. Now, gay marriage, controversial issue, yessiree. We got some religions up in here that don't like it. Hell, I got a religion up in here that doesn't like it. But I cannot for the LOVE OF GOD imagine how American society is going to be harmed in any way by legitimizing gay marriage. People are gay and they're going to continue to be gay whether the Falwells of the world like it or not, so it's about time we lived up to the "pursit of happiness" part of the Constitution and let people live their lives like they want to. And don't even feed me any of that "well, if you don't think we should legislate morality, then why is murder illegal?" bullshit, because gay marriage never came over to your house and stabbed you in the eyeball, idiot.
